Quick Start Guide

Hello and welcome to the Extended Edition installment of Dark Hour. In order to play on our server, you'll need Neverwinter Nights: Extended Edition. Though you are likely already aware, if you are not and are wondering where you can get your hands on it- find it on steam here.

Now that you've got your hands on the best game ever, you'll need our haks. These are custom files we utilise to enhance the module and give it a unique flavor while adding new and interesting features to the game. You can find it here. The "Lite" version is the one not including CEP, should you already have the current version.

Now you've got everything you need to log in and start enjoying the server. But where do you start, you ask? Players all begin in the Sundered Desolation, in the centre of the coastal city of Kalaram. Though similar to other Zombie Survival servers in its setting, you'll find the vast majority of our areas are entirely different than the others.

So here you are, standing in the middle of a Zombie-Infested city wondering what the heck you're going to do with your character. Well, there's a few things you need to know first. 

Making a Character

Your character is either from or shipwrecked upon the island nation of Siranda, located here within Faerun.

Keep the setting in mind when making your character. Now that you know the world and how your character got here, what are you going to make? All races and classes in-game are allowed, as well as these subraces. If you wish to play one of the available subraces, follow the instructions posted in the aforementioned link. Just remember: If you go out into the world and you aren't careful, your beloved character may die with no contacts to bring them back. So be careful with that first few levels to make sure your character is safe when he or she goes out- or always make sure to bring allies!

The Infection

The infection is what caused the entirety of a once prosperous empire to fall in days- it is a viral infection that is transferred in many ways, but it's primarily caught via bite. Bite from what you ask? A zombie. Once infected to the point of no return, subjects become brain-dead flesh eating zombies, and lose every bit of what they once were. In-game, your infection is tracked with disease tokens. Upon reaching ten of these tokens, your character will die and return as one of the living dead. Once this occurs, your character is PERMA DEAD. Yes, that's right. There is absolutely no way to return somebody from that point. The disease can be resisted with fortitude, and with enough of said fortitude, your character will recover eventually. But this is only if they avoid contracting more of the disease. It can also be cured (as long as you are under 10 tokens) with various teas and herbs found across the server.

Hunger

Your character must survive in this zombie-infested land, meaning he or she has to eat to get by! Supplies are very important, so heading out and searching for food and supplies is ideal. You don't have to travel across the island to do this either, you just need to explore. You'll recieve a notification if you are able to search in an area. Just use your scavenger tool and your search skill will be utilized to look for useful goods in the area. If you do not eat for an extended period of time, you will begin to suffer and your ability scores will plummet.

Leveling Up

There are many ways to gain EXP on Dark Hour. Mainly, you'll get experience for just surviving. That's the idea behind the survival element of the server. Every day you'll get a certain amount of experience for just making it through. You can also gain exp by killing special undead and collecting something called 'badges'. Badges are found in various points of interest all across the module, and give varying exp (usually 50). There are various other ways to get exp bonuses, such as through dungeon master rewards and secret item quests.

Roleplaying the Apocalypse

The end is nigh. For every living, there are thousands of undead. Will you sacrifice everything to survive, or join the walking dead in their endless march?
